At the end of 2008, the Wudang Mountain Airport project was launched again after three motions and three suspensions; On October 14, 2012, the State Council and the Central Military Commission approved the project; On December 24, 2013, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the feasibility study report; On May 8, 2014, the airport master plan was approved; On May 15, 2014, the preliminary design of the airport was approved. In December 2015, the school flight and test flight of Shiyan Wudang Mountain Airport were successful. On February 5, 2016, Wudang Mountain Airport was officially completed and opened to navigation.
Wudang Mountain Airport is an important branch airport of the national "12th Five Year Plan", the only newly built airport in Hubei Province during the "12th Five Year Plan" period, and a provincial and municipal key construction project. The airport site is about 15km from the urban area and 20km from Wudang Mountain Scenic Area. The flight class is 4C. The runway is 2600m long and 45m wide. The project covers a total area of 2800.5 mu, with a total investment of 1.635 billion yuan and a total excavation volume of about 40 million m3. The terminal covers an area of 16490 square meters (including Wudang Culture Exhibition Area), with 5 designed parking stands, which can take off and land B737-800, A320 and other series of aircraft. In the target year of this phase (2020), the annual passenger throughput is 900000 person times, the annual cargo throughput is 2700 tons, and the annual aircraft takeoff and landing is 10748.
Shiyan Wudang Mountain Airport is located in Bailang Economic and Technological Development Zone, Shiyan City, Hubei Province, China. It is about 15km away from the urban area and 25km away from Wudang Mountain Scenic Area, a famous Taoist holy land in China. It is a 4C civil transport airport and a branch airport in China. Shiyan Wudang Mountain Airport was officially completed and opened to navigation on February 5, 2016, and was named as Shiyan Wudang Mountain Airport.
Shiyan Wudang Mountain Airport has a terminal, T1 (domestic), totaling 16400 square meters; There is a runway with a length of 2600m; 7 stands (2 helicopter stands); It can guarantee an annual passenger throughput of 1.2 million people, an annual cargo throughput of 2700 tons, and an annual aircraft takeoff and landing of 16173. As of April 2019, a total of 17 domestic fixed routes and 26 navigable cities have been opened.
In 2018, the passenger throughput of Shiyan Wudang Mountain Airport was 1.1825 million person times, with a year-on-year growth of 36.0%; The cargo throughput is 50000 tons; 12500 take-off and landing sorties, up 26.4% year on year; They ranked 88th, 142nd and 112th respectively in China.
