Fangxian has a long history and culture. There are human activities in ancient times, and there are cultural sites of the Paleolithic and Neolithic Age in the territory. In ancient times, it was a concentrated area of the Peng clan. Before the Western Zhou Dynasty, it was the Fang State of the Peng tribe. In the Spring and Autumn Period, it was the Yong National Defense Mausoleum. In the Warring States Period, it belonged to Chu. It is located in the northwest of Hubei Province and the south of Shiyan City, connecting Baokang and Gucheng County in the east, Danjiangkou City in the northeast, Shennongjia Forest District in the south, and Zhushan County in the west. Fangxian County was called "Fangling" in ancient times, and it got its name from "thousands of miles long and wide, four blockades of mountains and forests, and its high tombs, like houses". There are cultural sites of the Paleolithic and Neolithic, which is one of the birthplaces of the Chu culture. It is the famous "hometown of agaric" and "hometown of yellow rice wine" in China. Famous scenic spots include Yeren Cave in Yeren Valley, Hot Spring Resort, Hangbang Rock, Xiansheng Temple, and the former residence of Luling King.
In terms of the protection of the cultural relics of the Book of Songs, Fang County has invested a lot of money to excavate and collect the ancient buildings, stone inscriptions, cultural relics and other hard carrier related cultural relics related to the Book of Songs culture, protect and repair the historical and cultural relics such as Yin Jifu's tomb, Baotang Temple, and build the stele pavilion and the corridor of the Book of Songs. Now the repaired Baotang Temple has opened to the outside world, During the Book of Songs (Yellow Rice Wine) Cultural Festival held in October 2018, the "500 Year Celebration of Baotang Temple (the holy hall of scholars)" was held.
In terms of the inheritance and promotion of the Book of Songs, the Fangxian County Party Committee and the county government have organized many cultural activities related to the Book of Songs to promote the inheritance. The development of cultural activities of the Book of Songs with regional characteristics has become normal. Activities such as the Songs Chanting Contest in Fangling, the Songs Culture in Fangling into the Community, the Organization, and the Campus have improved the influence and appeal of the Songs Culture in Fangxian County in different forms, and promoted the protection and inheritance of the Songs Culture. Three sessions of the Book of Songs Cultural Festival and the Book of Songs Forum, which were highly concerned at home and abroad, were held successively. Among them, the annual meeting of the Chinese Book of Songs Society held in 2010, 216 scholars of the Book of Songs culture at home and abroad conducted in-depth research on the Book of Songs culture in Fangxian County, and formed more than 100 valuable research papers; The Chinese Book of Songs Cultural Festival contracted in 2010, where more than 12000 people chanted the Book of Songs at the same time, was recorded in the Guinness World Record. Fangxian County has also been identified as a national research base for the culture of the Book of Songs by the Chinese Society for the Book of Songs. In August 2018, China Post issued the world's first set of stamps of the Book of Songs at the origin of the Book of Songs.
