Wudang Taoist music is the treasure of our national music. In most cases, it is a form of performance that combines singing, dancing and pleasure. It can be divided into two categories according to the genre: "rhyme" and "brand". According to the different playing occasions, objects and purposes, the "rhyme tune" can be divided into two categories: "yang tune" and "yin tune"; "Brands" are divided into three categories: "Zhengqu", "Shuaoqu" and "Faqi". The common instrument music boards include [Mountain Goat], [wutong Moon], [Greeting the Immortals], and the chanting music boards include [General Offering], [Doulao Zan], [Wang Mu Zan], etc.
During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, Wulong Temple was first built in Wudang Mountain. Since then, Zhengyi, Quanzhen and other Taoism sects have come to the mountain to preach, and famous Taoist masters of all dynasties have also lived in seclusion and practiced here. Long term religious activities have left extremely rich music materials. Wudang Temple Taoist Music not only retains the musical characteristics of Quanzhen School's "Ten party Rhyme", but also has the charm of multi sect music. Besides, it has all kinds of rhymes and brands of magic instruments, which is a rare and important cultural heritage in Taoist music. At present, the "Xuanmen Day Chanting Morning and Evening Class", "Zushi Table", "Sazu Iron Pot Feeding and Sacrificing Kefan" and other (full set) ritual music in Wudang Mountain Palace have been passed down in time and preserved properly and completely. Wudang Mountain Taoist music has greatly enriched the treasure house of our national music with its irreplaceable value.
