The pioneering period of the Second Automobile Factory is a time that Shiyan people remember and are proud of. Faced with the country's need for a complete production system of the automobile industry, Shiyan people, together with the people of the country, worked hard to achieve the initial goal of building a factory building in parallel with production and research and development. Meng Shaonong is the epitome of the scientific theory of automobile industry construction.
He once studied in the mechanical department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States. After graduation, he went to several large automobile companies in the United States for internship and further study. He was determined to move American automobile factories to China. On the eve of the founding of the People's Republic of China, he resolutely returned home, regardless of the superior treatment abroad, laying a foundation for the field of automobile manufacturing technology in New China.

Meng Shaonong has successively organized the technology introduction and personnel training of FAW to ensure the completion and operation of FAW; Later, he devoted himself to the decision-making and construction of "Second Automobile". From 1978 to 1988, at the critical juncture of the product quality breakthrough of Second Automobile, he determined the review and improvement plans for 64 quality breakthrough projects of Dongfeng 5-ton vehicles through analysis and research, so as to ensure the smooth production of Dongfeng vehicles at the end of 1978. Since 1981, it has proposed and gradually formed the product development policy of "producing one generation, developing one generation, and developing one generation". When the self raised funds are used to continue the construction of Second Automobile, it is strongly advocated not to reduce R&D investment, but to establish a technology center with strong development capabilities.
In addition, he also served as the president of the Second Automobile Workers' University (now Hubei Institute of Automotive Industry), and devoted a lot of efforts to the development and talent cultivation of Hubei Institute of Automotive Industry, and provided a large number of automotive industry talents for the country.
